Processing Guidelines

The Processing Workflow guidelines were written to help archivists plan and follow steps for processing large-scale digitization and archival collections. The procedures for processing workflow include preliminary research, surveying the collection, approval, image selection, applying finding aids, cataloging information, and adding the finished collection to the Archives of American Art’s public website.

This document was written for local use at the Archives of American Art, but it is hoped that it will be useful to other repositories. Users of these guidelines will want to make changes to synchronize them with local storage practices, descriptive practices, and capacities for digitization, and access.
