The Swetzoff Gallery's records of day-to-day operations are found in this series. Included are about twenty daybooks and notebooks which may include phone messages, drafts of outgoing correspondence, price and inventory lists, and reminders between gallery employees and Swetzoff. The Day Books span from 1953 to 1968 and are not complete. Other materials include leases and ownership agreements, mailing lists, memoranda, resumes of employees, and scattered shipping records.

Named files comprise the bulk of the collections and are arranged by the name of a client, artist, or institution. Files may include price lists, exhibition materials, correspondence, financial records, resumes, appraisals, and photographs of works of art. Correspondence found within the file of an artist may be from a potential buyer, an institution or other gallery, other artists, or by the artist listed.
Substantial material is found for Varujan Boghosian, Richard Boyce, Bruce Conner, Robert Eshoo, Fannie Hillsmith, Gyorgy Kepes, Yutaka Ohashi, Marianna Pineda, Odilon Redon, Reba Stewart, Harold Tovish, and Fernando Zóbel. Of note are letters from Berenice Abbot within the Atget file, letters from Mark Rothko, and letters from Victor Spark within the Fischer Galerie file. An original etched copper plate is found within the Fernando Zobel file.
Named files reflect the arrangement and folder titles originally provided by the Swetzoff Gallery.

The bulk of this series contains ledgers and records concerning the sale of works by the Swetzoff Gallery. In particular, records entitled "statements" date from 1959 to 1966 and may include the year, artist, title of work of art or framing job, and the purchaser. Other ledgers may not always include title of a work. Also found are records of accounts that are arranged by artist or by client, loan records, general bills and receipts, and records of the purchase of works of art by the Swetzoff Gallery.

Series 9: Hyman Swetzoff Papers , 1950-1968

The Hyman Swetzoff papers include biographical materials, calendars, correspondence, personal business records, writings, photographs, and artwork. Biographical materials are found for Hyman Swetzoff and his family including his children's report cards. Correspondents include George S. Abrams, Dr. H. E. Bergna, Mrs. Lillian Burack, Leah Campanella, Elizabeth Chace, Russ Connor, Bob Draper, Gabe Kohn, Howard Schafer, Robert Schoelkopf Jr., Mrs. Don Smith, and Barbara Swetzoff. In addition to letters from family and friends, some correspondence relates to the purchase of Swetzoff's personal art collection. Other letters concern travel arrangements. Business records include estate records and material relating to Scholar Dunce, co-written by Swetzoff. Writings include notes and poetry. Photographs are of Swetzoff, family snapshots, travel, and of others. There are sketches by Hyman Swetzoff and an unsigned sketch. Also found are materials relating to Swetzoff's co-ownership of the American Leaue Professional Soccer Team of Boston and a photograph of an unidentified European team.
