This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

0.25 linear feet of material consisting of design examples from the Acorn Press, founded by John and Jean Michael, with a strong predominance of announcements printed for events of the Society of Typographic Arts, for which John Michael served as treasurer.

Biographical Historical Note

John Michael, in partnership with his brother Jean Michael, founded Acorn Press in 1954 in Oak Park, Illinois. In 1969 they moved the business to the Washington, D.C. area, where they won numerous awards for their designs.
