Jack Weiss Associates collection

This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

Unprocessed. Approximately 6 boxes of material including stationary samples, personal correspondence and subject files relating to the Society of Typographic Arts, the Institute of Design, and other organizations, files relating to the group 27 Chicago Designers, and other items documenting the work of Jack Weiss Associates and the graphic design community.

Biographical Historical Note

Jack Weiss Associates is an Evanston, Illinois-based graphic design firm founded by Jack Weiss in 1977. Weiss worked at a number of design firms, including as Vice President of Blake & Weiss before founding Jack Weiss Associates. He has taught at the Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and chaired Twenty Seven Chicago Designers. He studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., the Institute of Design at IIT, and the School of Art & Architecture at Yale University.
