This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

0.5 linear feet (1 box) of material consisting largely of correspondence, much of it related to the Chicago literary journal called Musterbooks started by H. A. Simons, of which only two numbers appeared, in 1921 and 1922. The collection includes a group of letters exchanged between Simons and artist Stanisław Szukalski.

Biographical Historical Note

H. A. (Hi) Simons had an extended career as a poet and patron of the arts. In 1921 and 1922, Simons published two numbers of his own literary journal, Musterbooks.
