This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

8 boxes and approximately 23 binders (approximately 15 linear feet) of material documenting exhibitions held at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art since 1971. (A list of exhibitions is available on the UIMA website.) A small volume of material relates to exhibitions held by other, mostly earlier, Ukrainian-American art organizations in Chicago. Included are correspondence, vitae, price lists, catalogues and other printed ephemera, clippings, and installation photographs.

Biographical Historical Note

The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art was founded in 1971 and has held exhibitions of work by Canadian artists, Chicago artists beginning their professional careers, Ukrainian, Polish and Lithuanian artists, and first- generation computer art, book art, fiber, and ceramics artists.
