53 reels of microfilm of 89 volumes of scrapbooks, mostly of clippings from various newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Examiner (articles by Harriet Monroe), the Chicago Evening Post, and the Chicago Daily News, documenting chronologically press coverage of the activities of artists of Chicago, exhibitions and other art activities, etc. Most clippings are annotated with the newspaper name and issue date. In 1957, this series absorbed a separate scrapbook series of newspaper clippings concerning the Art Institute of Chicago. School of the Art Institute of Chicago course catalogs for 1882-1892 are included on microfilm reels for corresponding years. The scrapbooks are partially indexed in the Art Institute of Chicago Ryerson Library’s Index to Art Periodicals (1962) and Burnham Index to Architectural Literature (1989). Each volume contains an index of its contents, although these are not exhaustive.
