This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

15 boxes of material consisting of files kept by Jochen Gerz as editor of Éditions Agentzia, including correspondence, manuscripts (including typescripts, original graphics, photocollages, photographs, exhibition catalogs), some production materials, and monographs and serials associated with Agentzia authors. The collection includes correspondence with American artists Roland Flexner, Ken Friedman, Dan Graham, Dick Higgins, and Marvin Malone.

Biographical Historical Note

Edited by Jochen Gerz and Jean-François Bory, Paris-based Éditions Agentzia was the publisher of the journal Agenzia between 1967 and 1971. The journal covered radical art, research, and visual poetry. Éditions Agentzia also published objects, leaflets, stickers, posters, editions, books, and an artists’ directory.
