This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

21 scrapbooks and 2 file boxes of material documenting the activities of the North Shore Art League, including an account of the formation of the League, constitutions, reports of meetings, minutes of the Board of Directors, photographs, minutes of general meetings, committee reports, newspaper clippings, exhibition catalogs, financial reports, files on artists, newsletters, and other materials. Among the artists featured are Abbott Pattison, Franz Schulze, LeRoy Neiman, Anita Willets Burnham, and Joan Taxay Weinger.

Biographical Historical Note

The North Shore Art League was organized in 1924 "to cultivate a higher appreciation of art by means of exhibits, lectures, and social activities within the North Shore towns." It offers art classes and sponsors several local exhibitions annually.
