This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

0.6 cubic feet of material consisting of articles, mailings, catalogs, and other material related to the Swedish American Art Exhibition. This collection also includes a list of artwork that includes artist name, title of artwork, medium, date it was cataloged in the Swedish American Art Exhibition catalog, and whether the image appeared in the catalog. Among the important artists included were John Carlson, Olaf Grafström, and Birger Sandzen.

Biographical Historical Note

Between 1911 and 1964, the Swedish Club of Chicago held 33 exhibitions of Swedish American art from across the U.S., with the majority of artists from Chicago.
