This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. Unprocessed. 1 cubic ft. of material consisting of correspondence between Herman Cohen of the Chiswick Book Shop and important calligraphers and members of the book trade, including E. Harold Hugo, Will Ransom, and Rudolph Ruzicka. Inventory available on site.

Biographical Historical Note

The Chiswick Book Shop [Bookshop] was founded in 1935 by Herman and Viv Cohen in New York City, and operated until the 1997. Chiswick was the distributor of many famous private presses, including The Allen Press, The Bird & Bull Press, and the Hammer Creek Press.
