This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. Descriptive Summary

2 folders of material consisting of exhibition catalogs (?) of photography by Charles Swedlund: "The Whole Show" (Alibi Fine Art, Chicago, 2012), inscribed by Swedlund; "Photographs: Multiple Exposures with the Figure" (1973), introduction and inscription by Swedlund. The collection includes additional printed material related to images in "The Whole Show"; personal correspondence with Dale Walker, staff member at Institute of Design; and a photograph of Swedlund.

Biographical Historical Note

Chicago native Charles Swedlund studied photography at the Institute of Design (ID) in the late 1950s, studying with Aaron Siskend. As a photographer, Swedlund is best known for his experimental nude photographs using multiple exposures. Between 1971 and 1999, Swedlund taught photography at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois.
