The Chicago History Museum, founded in 1856, documents the history of Chicago. Its collections also reflect its earlier mission of documenting United States history to 1865. Included are papers of artists and designers and records of art- and design-related companies and organizations as well as events such as world's fairs. Access to collections information varies. Many archival collections are listed in the museum's online catalogue and in online finding aids that offer varying levels of descriptive detail. Many older and now out-of-scope collections are described only in hard-copy inventories or in a card catalogue available on site. Some records in this web resource were compiled from in-person examination of materials.
