This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

2 boxes of material consisting primarily of original cartoons and drawings executed by Roland Hansen while he was a student at Chicago's Lane Technical High School and later during his employ by the Chicago Daily News. Included are comic illustrations for the school newspaper or yearbook regarding school activities and organizations, hand-drawn and colored comic books, and illustrated short stories generally regarding criminals and law enforcement agents. Hansen's newspaper work consists mainly of individual cartoons regarding politics, food, games, social customs and a few series. A few photographs and original drawings depict Hansen and acquaintances.
