This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. Descriptive Summary

Approximately 100 pages of notes and outlines for A Pictorial History of the United States of America, circa 1935, and some possibly also related to Cheskin's proposals for Works Progress Administration mural projects.

Biographical Historical Note

David B. Cheskin, a structural engineer, painted one recorded mural under WPA sponsorship, Pioneer of Democracy, for the Oregon, Illinois, post office, as well as easel paintings. He was the founder and president of Chicago Artists Equity, the local branch of the national artists’ union formed during the Depression era.
