This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. Descriptive Summary

126 photographic prints and 2 folders of non-graphic material consisting of photoprints made in Hungary and other European nations, 1937-1956, as well as numerous photographs made in Chicago, Toronto and Sarasota, Florida, circa 1960–1999, by Hungarian-born photographer Cornel Somogy. Topics of the Chicago photographs include neighborhood art fairs among others.

Biographical Historical Note

Cornel Somogy was a Hungarian-born photographer who worked in Chicago as a structural engineer and researcher while pursuing his interest in photography.
