This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. Biographical Historical Note
The Chicago Society of Decorative Art was founded in 1877 and inspired by the New York City organization by the same name. Mrs. J. Y. Scammon was one of its leaders. It eventually settled in the building of the Art Institute of Chicago and later was reorganized as the Art Institute's Antiquarian Society.
