This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. Approximately 50 items consisting of letters by authors, actors, managers, and others in the theatrical field. Included are 2 signed letters by Thomas Nast, including a pencil sketch of [i.e., by?] Nast dated 1896.

Biographical Historical Note

Thomas Nast was a German-born American caricaturist and editorial cartoonist considered the "Father of the American Cartoon".
