This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. Descriptive Summary

63 films from the 16mm film collection of Southern Illinois University library. These works span across genres, from experimental shorts to feature documentaries to educational and instructional films. The McGraw-Hill Book Company and the Encyclopedia Britannica distributed a substantial number of these films, and others are still currently in distribution by the National Film Board of Canada, California Newsreel, and Maysles Films. Included are works by Millie Goldsholl.

Biographical Historical Note

Chicago artist and experimental filmmaker Millie Goldsholl was an early student of the Chicago School of Design. Along with her husband Mort Goldsholl, she ran Goldsholl Design and Film Associates, one of Chicago’s leading graphic design studios in the 1950s.
