Summary: Papers collected by Reiss while preparing a retrospective exhibition at the Monhegan (Maine) Museum on his grandmother, Sarah Freedman McPherson. Included are biographical material on McPherson; published and unpublished writings about McPherson by Barbara Deming, Michael Loew, James McKinnell, Walter Pach, Anne Poor, Arthur Sainer, and B.F. Skinner; a typescript of a memorial address, "Sarah McPherson 1895-1978, A Remembrance," by Reiss; and a photograph of McPherson.

Reiss is a professor at Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, N.Y. His grandmother, Sarah Freedman McPherson, was a painter and art instructor, New York City.
