Summary: Artists files created by Rathbun while he was Assistant Secretary for the Smithsonian Institution including a letter from Thomas Wilmer Dewing about his painting "Summer," exhibited at the National Gallery; correspondence with the sculptor Lorado Taft; and correspondence between Elizabeth Johnson, wife of the painter Eastman Johnson, and the Smithsonian regarding the disposition of paintings from her husband's estate.
