Summary: Two letters from Richard Diebenkorn to artist and friend Robert Stanley.
In the first letter, dated August 2, 1977, Diebenkorn is responding to a letter from Stanley about Stanley's recent paintings. The second letter, dated July 28 [1988], is Diebenkorn's response to a letter that Stanley wrote to Diebenkorn after reading the essay, "The Anatomy of Painting Style: Description with Computer Rules," by Joan L. Kirsch and Russell A. Kirsch, MIT Press, 1988, about how an algorithm had been developed from Diebenkorn's compositional style. Diebenkorn's response includes his views concerning computer-based art.
