Warren Menaker thought books

This record forms part of the Chicago’s Art-Related Archival Materials: A Terra Foundation Resource project funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art. For this project, the Archives surveyed archival repositories throughout the Chicago region to identify art-related materials contained in their holdings. While the Archives of American Art does not own any of the materials described herein, information about those materials and links to the original repositories have been included when available.

Descriptive Summary

Unprocessed.12 ring binders of administrative papers, 4 binders of slides and series of 184 sketch books/diaries ranging from 1975 to 2006 documenting Warren Menaker's observations while he lived and worked in Chicago, Illinois, and later in Phoenix, Arizona. Daily entries contain hand-written notes, drawings, and collages.

Biographical Historical Note

Chicago native Warren M. Menaker was an advertising executive and artist. He began keeping "thought books" in 1975, continuing the practice until shortly before his death at age 73.
