Summary: An autobiographical essay; biographical material; correspondence; 12 appointment books, 1968-1980; 4 guest books, 1938-1980; typescripts of Kappel's published manuscript, "New England Gallery," 1966; notes and typescripts of writings; financial records; works of art by Kappel and others; 6 scrapbooks containing printed material and letters; 2 books, LOUISIANA GALLERY, 1950 and 1970, and JAMAICA GALLERY, 1960, written and illustrated by Kappel; reproductions, catalogs and announcements; printed material on the Connecticut Commission on the Arts and the Washington Art Association, Washington Depot, Ct.; clippings; and ca. 1000 photos, slides and negatives of Kappel, his family, friends, and his home in New Milford, Ct.

Etcher, lithographer, illustrator, painter and writer; New Milford, Conn. Studied at Pratt Institute; b. 1901; d. 1981.


Kappel donated first two installments of collection in 1976 and 1978. Final part, consisting of correspondence, press clippings, business accounts and scrapbooks given by executors of Kappel's estate in 1982.
