The Museum of Fine Arts Restructuring Files are comprised of papers compiled by Patricia Hills concerning the restructuring of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) including the dismissal of Jonathan L. Fairbanks as Curator of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture and the dissolution of his department at the MFA in 1999. Included are MFA's strategic plan, "One Museum-New Museum-Great Museum, The Plan to Transform the MFA [Boston]," November 6, 1997, correspondence regarding the issue including those petitioning the board, Hills's notes and diary regarding the events, newspaper clippings, and other printed material. Also included are related research materials including a typescript of a lecture "Active and Passive Voices," delivered at the Clark Art Institute, April 9, 1999 by William Truettner, Senior Curator of painting and sculpture, Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
