Fairbanks as Curator of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture and the dissolution of his department at the MFA in 1999. Included are a bound volume of MFA's strategic plan, "One Museum-New Museum-Great Museum, The Plan to Transform the MFA [Boston]," November 6, 1997; correspondence regarding the MFA Museum School; Hills's "notes/diary," July 4 - December 15, 1999; newspaper clippings and other printed material about the MFA's restructuring; and miscellany. Also included is a typescript of a lecture "Active and Passive Voices," delivered at the Clark Art Institute, April 9, 1999 by William Truettner, Senior Curator of painting and sculpture, Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
