The papers include eighteen sketches, one letter, and printed material relating to Daly's artistic career. Additional printed material and an article written by Daly relate to her work as the secretary and later treasurer of the Sketch Club (San Francisco, California).

Nellie Murtha Daly (1865-1954) was a sketch artist from San Francisco, California. Daly served as the secretary and treasurer of the Sketch Club, a female-only organization focused on the sharing and critique of each other's works.

The collection was donated in 1991 by Mary L. Daly (Mrs. James Daly), daughter-in-law of Nellie Murtha Daly, on behalf of the Daly family.
