Series 1: Biographical Material , 1943-1998

Biographical material compiled by Pineda includes resumes, passport fragment, an interview transcript, two loose sketches, and correspondence with art historians, museums and galleries, and family; administrative correspondence, student evaluations, and other papers documenting her time at Newton College of the Sacred Heart, Boston University, and Boston College; and several files related to Pineda's membership in the Sculptor's Guild, National Sculpture Society, and National Academy of Design that consist of correspondence, exhibitions, gifts of artwork, printed material, and some sales records. Writings found in this series include drafts of artist statements and other writings and one journal. Also included are materials related to Marianna Pineda's memorial organized by Harold Tovish; and one VHS recording of a lecture given by Tovish.

The bulk of this series relates to Pineda's sculpture of Queen Lili'uokalani, The Spirit of Lili'oukalani, commissioned by the state of Hawaii and completed in 1982; the subsequent exhibition, Search for the Queen; and a documentary film by Pineda that intertwined Hawaiian history, the life of Queen Lili'uokalani, and her process of sculpting The Spirit of Lili'oukalani. These files include correspondence, contracts, loan agreements, pricelists, photographs, printed material, grant applications, resumes of documentary staff, a notebook, and one VHS.
Also included are correspondence, calls for proposals, contracts, and photographs related to public commissions pursued by Pineda. Other projects documented in this series include An Aspect of Oracle at the Radcliffe Institute; Twirling, commissioned by the Boston Redevelopment Authority; and Pineda's lecture, "Rodin's Portrayal of Women."
