Summary: The photographs of muralist Lucienne Bloch date from 1934 to 1937. The bulk of the photographs are of Bloch's and Steve Dimitroff's murals in New York City, including the House of Detention for Women, the Madison House, and George Washington High School. Also found are photos of Steve Dimitroff and of a demonstration on May Day in New York City, 1936.
Lucienne Bloch (1909-1999) was a muralist, painter, and sculptor in New York City, New York. Born in Switzerland, Bloch studied art in Paris before moving to the United States. She was married to fellow muralist Stephen Pope Dimitroff (1910-1996). Bloch participated in the Federal Art Project, Works Progress Administration. In addition to being a painter, Bloch was a photographer and a children's book illustrator.
The collection was loaned for microfilming by Lucienne Bloch and returned after filming.
