The John Heliker letters to Charlie Harmon include twenty-two letters and postcards (and one additional envelope) from John (Jack) Heliker to Charlie Harmon (1979-1989 and undated), one exhibition announcement and two catalogs, and a program from Heliker's celebration of life service. Heliker writes about his daily activities, health, studio work and exhibitions and events.
Biographical/Historical Note
John (Jack) Edward Heliker (1909-2000) was a painter and educator in New York, N.Y. Heliker studied and taught at the Art Students League, was professor of Art at Columbia University, and was a founding member of the New York Studio school. Charlie Harmon is a music editor and arranger and was archivist for the Leonard Bernstein estate. He and Heliker met and became friends in 1979.
