Portrait painter and engraver; New York City. Born in London, moved to U.S. in 1805. Worked as teacher, distiller, librarian, gallery operator and painter. Died in Paris.
The donor, Mrs. Helen Adams, is the grand-daughter of Caroline Herring and the great-grand-daughter of James Herring.
