Summary: The papers of watercolor painter Jacob Getlar Smith (1898-1958) measure 2.9 linear feet and date from circa 1919-2010. Included are works of art consisting of caricatures, portrait drawings and sketches; scrapbooks; personal and professional correspondence; photographs of Smith, other artists, and Woodstock, NY; writings including a draft manuscript for Smith's book, "Art and the Artist and You" (includes copy photographs of illustrations for the book); biographical material; and printed material consisting of exhibition invitations, catalogs, clippings and a newsletter.
Caricatures and portrait drawings by Smith of Jack Chain, Francis Criss, Stuart C. Edie, Philip Evergood, Ernest Fiene, Eugenie Gershoy, Chaim Gross, Nathan Halper, [?] Hunt, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Julian Levi, Reginald Marsh, Jan Matulka, Concetta Scaravaglione, Irving Stone, Chuzo Tamotzu, and unidentified others. Also included is a self-portrait and several sketches by Adele Loeffler, Smith's wife.
