Summary: An interview of Hope Makler conducted 1989 November 28, by Marina Pacini for the Archives of American Art Philadelphia Project. Makler speaks of her art education at the Barnes Foundation and at the University of Pennsylvania; opening the Makler Gallery in Philadelphia in 1960; working with New York City galleries such as Andre Emmerich and Frank Perls to bring the work of such artists as Milton Avery, Jacques Lipchitz and Alexander Calder to Philadelphia; and the Philadelphia gallery scene.
