Summary: The scattered papers of Gladys Kashdin measure 1.2 linear feet and date from 1942 to 1978. Found are research files and interviews focusing on Abstract Expressionism and abstract expressionist artists including sound recordings of interviews with H. Harvard Arnason, James Brooks, Adolph Gottlieb, Philip Guston, Conrad Marca-Relli, and Robert Motherwell.
Biographical/Historical Note
Gladys Kashdin (1921-2014) was an art historian, painter, and educator in New York City, New York, and later Florida. In addition to an extensive career showing her artwork she was a scholar of Abstract Expressionsim and received her PhD from Florida State University. Kashdin taught at the University of South Florida for twenty-five years and was designated Professor Emeritus on retirement.

Gladys Kashdin donated her papers to the Archives of American Art in 1981 and 1982.
