General correspondence includes both name and subject files and reflects the personal relationships Lanyon maintained, the artists she associated with, as well as exhibitions, projects, collaborations, publications, residencies, teaching appointments, and other professional activities she was involved with. Many of the letters are illustrated, especially those from Plunkett, whose mail art includes junk, ephemera, toys, and collages. While primarily letters received, occasional drafts, copies, and email printouts from Lanyon are also found here. The folders "American Academy of Arts and Letters" and "Jury Member and Panelist" contain corresponding electronic records.

10.2: Chicago and New York Art History, 1937-2013
Material here primarily documents the careers of artists and the history of art organizations in Chicago, with less material relating to New York. Many artists were personal friends of Lanyon and she also played a role in some of the organizations. The Hairy Who, the Chicago Imagists, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Hyde Park Art Center, Participating Artists of Chicago (PAC), and other art groups or organizations are well documented. A small amount of photographic material is found throughout the subseries. Roland Ginzel designed a poster for PAC featuring photographs of members, and as a result, the originals of the photo booth pictures are found here. Material is arranged by type or subject. One video recording of Tom Palazzolo's Down Clark Street is on one video cassette (VHS) and one videodisc (DVD). Electronic files contain Chicago ephemera.
