Summary: The papers of curator and art critic, David S. Rubin measure 23.0 linear feet and date from 1969-2014. Included are biographical material consisting of appointment books, a guest book and membership documents; administrative files; personal and professional correspondence; writings by Rubin, lecture notes, and notes from his interviews with artists; foundation and project files, portions containing sound and video recordings; exhibition files; loan files; artists' files; photographs of events, exhibition instlallations and works of art; works of art by others; and printed material. A majority of the collection revolves around Rubin's work in California. A portion of the collection is born digital. Sound and video recordings include interviews, broadcast news clippings, lectures, voice mail messages, and personal recordings.

Biographical/Historical Note

David S. Rubin (1949- ) is a curator and art critic in Los Angeles, Calif. Rubin curated exhibitions throughout the United States, primarily in Los Angeles, Southern California, New Orleans, Louisiana, and San Antonio, Texas. He received an MA in Art History from Harvard University and was a curator at the San Francisco Art Institute, Albright College, Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, Phoenix Art Museum, Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans, and the San Antonio Museum of Art.
