Summary: Correspondence, writings, and printed material relating to the New-York Historical Society's Dictionary of Artists in America. Correspondence pertains to the completion of the Dictionary of Artists in America in 1957 and includes letters between Wallace and New-York Historical Society staff, the Yale University Press, contributors, and reviewers. Other correspondence pertains to a conference convened June 29, 1982 to discuss the matter of expanding and updating the Dictionary of Artists in America. Printed material includes a final report summarizing the conference as well as a cover jacket, reviews and conference announcements. Also included is a typescript of excerpts, 1952-1957, compiled by Wallace of letters to his wife, his diary, his wife's diary and selected letters from George C. Groce, all pertaining to the creation of the Dictionary.
