Summary: Biographical material; cartoons for a WPA mural in Columbus High School, Washington, D.C.; notes on various subjects, including art, industrial design, music and history; miscellaneous writings; study photographs of works of art; clippings, exhibition catalogs and announcements; and printed material about other artists, including Boardman Robinson, Thomas Hart Benton, Dean Cornwell, Frank Brangwyn, George Baller and Chanase's wife, Ausubel Sheva.

Biographical/Historical Note

Dane Chanase (1894-1975) was a painter, printmaker, mural painter and sculptor; New York, N.Y. Also known as Richard Dane Chanase, Riccardo Dane Chanase. Chanase was born in Palermo, Italy, October 21, 1894.

Provenance

Donated in 1977 by Genie and Moshe Szajngarten who occupied Chanase's former residence.
