REEL 482: Letters from Hopkinson to his daughter Isabella; clippings; list of paintings at Harvard; a sketchbook; and comments about him by his daughter and nephew.

REEL 486: 26 letters from Hopkinson to his daughter, Harriot, plus one letter to her husband, Alfred Rive; and 1 undated exhibition notice.

REEL 515: Hopkinson's will; correspondence and papers relating to the disposition and exhibition of Hopkinson's estate; biographical account; 3 photographs of Hopkinson (also filmed on reel 1817, fr. 625-630), and one of his portrait of John S. Lawrence.

REELS 634-639: 85 sketchbooks, ca. 1890-1958. Included in the sketchbooks are miscellaneous notes; notes and sketches on the Old Masters, manuscripts of an "Essay on Painting", "My Life as an Artist", and a list of portraits by Hopkinson. Included also are many rough sketches and composition studies for portraits of family members and prominent people; and a few sketches by his daughters Joan and Elly.

REEL 4782: 11 sketchbooks, undated and 1892-1956, including sketches of Italy, England and Ireland, and a few sketches in 1892 by Elinor Curtis, before her marriage to Hopkinson; and ca. 140 sheets of sketches, 1894-1957, including sketches done in Roscoff, Brittany, of family members and others, and miscellaneous subjects. Also, writings by Joan Hopkinson Shurcliff and her husband William, including: The Extended Family of the Five Hopkinson Daughters; Portraits by Charles Hopkinson; Landscape Paintings by Charles Hopkinson; and an "Explanatory Version of Mrs. Charles S. Hopkinson's Journal," containing comments and transcription of selected pages recording sales of Charles Hopkinson's paintings from 1910-1947; 2 exhibition catalogs, 1989 and 1991; and a clipping.

Material on reels N68-106, 482, 486, 515 (except photos), and 634-639 lent for microfilming 1968-1973 by Hopkinson's daughters Joan Hopkinson Shurcliff, Isabella Halsted and Harriot Rive; in 1992 they, along with another daughter, Elinor Barr, and granddaughters, Mrs. John M. Clarke and Mrs. James Masek, donated material on reel 4782, as well as six previously loaned sketchbooks on reel 639 (frames 214-295, 300-388, 610-708, and 820-874). The whereabouts of the remaining sketchbooks is unknown. Shurcliff donated the four photographs on reel 515 in 1973.

  • Reels 634-639: Originals returned to Isabella Halsted and Mrs. William Shurcliff after microfilming; six sketchbooks on reel 639 were subsequently donated.
