Catherine H. Campbell papers, 1856-1987, bulk 1970-1987

Found here is a Christmas card with a short personal note from Edward and Jo Hopper, 1944, and a letter to the Crawford J. Campbell family, June 7, 1946, from Jo Hopper. She responds to news of the Campbell family in Chicago, comments on the possibility that Hopper's Washington Square studio may be annexed by New York University, and on their trip to Mexico. The bulk of the letters concern Campbell's lectures and research. Lecture and writing files consist primarily of manuscripts and notes, with some also including correspondence, printed materials, and slide lists. Files for the exhibition The White Mountains: Place and Perceptions (1980) include correspondence, printed materials, lists of paintings, and additional materials from the University of New Hampshire.

Files are mainly comprised of research notes, printed materials, photographic materials, and correspondence between Campbell and librarians, archivists, collectors, and other scholars about artists or topics. Some folders include photocopied writings and printed materials from the nineteenth century, information about sales of artwork, and exhibition ephemera. Card files contain bibliographic information, research notes, and quotations. Aside from artists, topics include sites in the White Mountains, towns, dealers, engravers, photography, and more. This series also includes sketches by James Buckley.
