Summary: The papers of sculpture, painter and gallery owner Bardene Allen measure 0.8 linear feet and date from 1965-2014. Included are a resume, letters, photographs, writings, business records, and printed material relating to Bardene Allen's career as a sculptor and painter. A portion of the collection is in digital format.

Letters (many including newspaper clippings and snapshots of works of art) are from Frederick Hammersley, Hammersley's sister Susie Stone, and Allen's friend, painter and actor Richard Chamberlain.

Photographs and slides are of works of art. Writings include Allen's personal oberservations of her friendship with Hammersley. Business records include financial and organizational records of the Fine Arts Gallery, exhibition records and an inventory of sculpture. Printed material includes newspaper and magazine clippings, exhibition announcements and catalogs.

Biographical/Historical Note

Bardene Allen (1933- ) is a sculptor, painter and gallery owner in Laguna Beach, Calif. Allen studied in the 1950s with Frederick Hammersley at Pomona College. She is the former owner of the Fine Arts Gallery in Laguna Beach, Calif. (1980-1983). Allen has worked in stone, wood, resin, bronze and terracotta.


Donated 1992-2002, 2009 and 2014 by Bardene Allen.
