Biographical/Historical Note
Cumming, an English immigrant, studied under Robert Swain Gifford (painter, 1840-1905) and taught for several years at the Swain Free School (now known as the Swain School of Design) in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Provenance
The sketchbook was purchased by the donor from art dealer Samuel Murray of Wilbraham, Massachusetts.
