General sales ledgers document sales of a wide range of items sold and auctioned by the American Art Association, including, but not limited to, books, etchings, furniture and furnishings, paintings, and prints. Sales ledgers with specific items sold are so noted.
Ledgers list sales by collection or sale name, unless otherwise noted.

Paintings, "Outside Sales, Europe" (A-K), 1853-1879
Ledger includes a record of paintings sold by other galleries or auction houses, 1853-1879, mostly in Paris, apparently compiled in 1906 from printed catalogs and used as a reference work by the Association. Entries are arranged alphabetically by artist’s name, and may include the title, owner, catalog number, date, price (often in francs), and purchaser. This volume includes names from A through K.

Identical to ledger BV27 but covering names from L through Z.

Paintings, "Outside Sales, United States", 1863-1902
Somewhat similar to ledgers BV27-BV28, but listing sales by other galleries or auction houses in the U. S. An alphabetical index refers to the page where an artist’s name can be found. Under his name is a list of the paintings sold during this period, including title, size, name of owner, date of sale, name of purchaser, and the price.

Paintings, "Outside Sales, United States", 1863-1902
Similar to ledger BV29 but with sales entered under the purchaser’s name. Entries include the title of paintings, name of artist, price, size, and former owner. The volume seems to have been compiled in 1902 and contains an alphabetical index to purchasers. Included are records of numerous purchases by L. A. Lanthier, Knoedler and Co., Reichard and Co., S. P. Avery, Boussod-Valadon, and others.

The entries are arranged alphabetically by artist, this volume covering A through F, and include the title or subject, size, name of consignor, name of sale (sometimes different from the name of the consignor, such as Famous French Painters), lot number, date, price, and purchaser. Includes sales of paintings by Charles Francois, Daubigny, Eugene Delacroix, Edgar Degas, and others.

A continuation of ledger BV31, covering G through Q. Included are sales of paintings by Thomas Gainsborough, Alexander Harrison, George Inness, Sir Peter Lely, Will H. Low, Hendrik Willem Mesdag, John Francois, Millet, Adolphe Monticelli, et al.

This volume more or less duplicates ledger BV31 but there is some information in it that is not found in the other. Entries range only from A through F.

This volume continues ledger BV33, but covers R through Z. It includes sales of works by Sir Henry Raeburn, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Adolphe Schreyer, Fritz Thaulow, Emile Van Marcke, and others.

An alphabetical index refers the reader to the page where an artist is listed. Entries include the painting titles or subject (e.g. marine, landscape), the size, owner, lot number, date, names of purchaser, and price. Pages 150-208 contain ‘miscellaneous’ sales.

Includes an alphabetical index by artist’s name. Entries include subject or title, size, owner, date, purchaser, and price. There is also an extensive listing under ‘Miscellaneous’ on pages 70-97. Artists represented by a large number of sales include: R. A. Blakelock, J. Wells Champney, William M. Chase, F. S. Church, Samuel Colman, J. B. C. Corot, Charles C. Homer, George Inness, C. E.
