Saturday, May 17, 1884 Breakfasted at Marys with Julia and Calvert. After I returned to my room I sent Julia her wedding present a little spring picture of the view from the front of hour house looking south with apple trees in blossom in the foreground. Lockwood De Forest came and looked at my studies. He selected four to show his wife and said he would want to keep one of them and return the others. Arranged my pictures so as to be able to send them to the different exhibitions. The Academy closes today. I was not able to attend the Annual meeting. I understood Arthur Parton and Thos. Moran were made Academiciams. Neither of my two unsold pictures have been sold. There has been great disturbance in Wall St, failures, panic and defalcations. The Grant-Ward failure has created great disturbance. I think Sceney has failed also. Came home by the 4.30 train. Ordered a carriage which came ten minutes late and I came near being left. Saw CoyKendall, his wife and two children came up. At the Junction they went into the drawing room car and he insisted on my coming in with them.
