Monday, Nov 30, 1874- Have been a good deal worried about our fortune. My temporal anxieties often swallow up all my other interests, but it is not right. Boswell has much to say of poor old Dr. Johnsons melancholy and his earnest efforts to overcome it. It has been cold today. I walked two hours in the morning before I went to work and spent the rest of the day in a fruitless effort to compose a background for my picture of the "Oaken chest" and have finally drawn in a stairway from a print in my book on the manners & customs of the middle ages. Paid my school tax today.
