Monday, June 1, 1874- We came for the summer on Friday 29 two days earlier than last year. It was a very warm day. Mr. Secor called last week to see me and the next day I received a note from him inquiring the price of my Kaatskill Woods. I replied $1000. He wrote me offering me $800 in Secor Sewing Machine Stock which he says he would not sell for 125. I have written him leaving the matter open. Moore called to see me on Saturday and I let him have a little winter picture for $60 a hint I got on the Flat bush road last winter. Saturday was decoration day. Poor Mrs. Stevens died on Saturday after suffering terribly and was buried today. Girard came up Saturday and returned Sunday night. I gave him a letter to F. B. Thurber. Today I called on Sam. Coy Kendall and asked him to go and see Whittredges picture of the camp meeting, which he promised to do. I said all I could in favor of Whittredges pictures and I only hope he will buy it. He asked me to paint a little companion picture to the one I gave his wife when they were married. Wrote to Whittredge telling him I had seen Coy Kendall.
