Thursday, Jan 29, 1874- Went out and did some errands this morning not yet feeling quite well. Ordered a canvas 24x42 for my Academy picture. Mrs. Sawyer came in to tell me she and Alice would go up to Rondout tomorrow. Mr. Moore called. Wants more pictures. Showed him my figures which seemed to surprise him very much. Wants me to send my last landscape up to his room on Saturday to show to some gentlemen who are coming to see one of Eastman Johnsons. Just before he left Mr. Hedian came in and took my little winter picture "Saturday Afternoon" for $200 without frame. Have worked the most of the day on my Solitaire. Took it up in the parlor where I had plenty of room to manage my perspective and drew in and painted the carpet and corrected it generally. Hope to finish it now so as to go at my Academy picture. Dined at Marys. She and Calvert dined out. After dinner Sara and I went to a concert to hear Miss Isabella Brush sing. Am sorry to say I was disappointed. Her voice was not pleasant, her bearage was unquiet and conventional and in her dress she took no advantage of her youth and beauty. Her dress was too low for a girl and I cant believe she will ever achieve any lasting success. Mrs Dyer and Mrs. Brace were there. Girard was at Marys when we got back. This is Gertrudes fortieth birthday. I wrote her this morning to tell her that the years counted as nothing in an eternal love.
