Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, July 30, 1890, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Wednesday, July 30, 1890 A hot day. I was down town in the morning but have kept pretty quiet today. I had a letter from Bowyer. The Knights of Pythoras [sic] are having a convention in Kingston. This afternoon they paraded through the streets. I went down on the side hill to see them. I was not much impressed I confess. What a natural instinct it seems to be to put on fine clothes and let some one lead through hot and dusty streets. I have done it in my day.
