Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, December 12, 1889, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Thursday, Dec 12, 1889 A little cooler but lovely weather. I stopped at Macys and bought some Xmas presents for the children and have painted all day. I have no new ideas and I am trying to improve my old pictures. Jefferson Davis was buried with great ceremony at New-Orleans yesterday. What a proof of the strength of this government has been that mans history since the war. Strong enough to let such a man say and do about what he pleased.
