Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, October 26, 1888, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Friday, Oct 26, 1888 I am very tired tonight. Have been down town when I got some paint and this afternoon painted part of the kitchen floor down stairs. Spent the forenoon with the apples which Tom is slowly gathering it is tedious work. It has been a beautiful day but there are indications of rain. A letter came from Mary this morning with a check for her school tax. She says Lucy will come home on Monday. Mrs. Geo. Coykendall came to invite us to a surprise party to Peter & Mrs Phillips next Thursday evening, the 40th (she said) anniversary of their marriage. Sara has gone to Liscombs hall to some entertainment for the Baptist Sunday School. I am reading Anna Karenina with much interest.
